A reporting database on the current system
A specialty finance company that wanted better numbers without replacing its servicing system.
The problem
Data sat in separate, disconnected tables. Getting a number meant someone building a report by hand, and executives waited for it.
What we did
- Synced production data into one SQL Server database on a schedule. The live system wasn't changed.
- Built clean tables with the business rules written down and signed off.
- Ran dashboards, lender reports and Excel files from the database.
- Added a Teams assistant that answers staff with a number or an Excel file.
Guardrails
- It only sees data we prepare for it.
- Everything it does is logged.
- It catches prompt injection, where someone hides instructions in a question to trick it.
- If it isn't sure about a question, it doesn't guess. It sends the question on for a person to look into.
- Nothing is written without a person approving it.
When this fits
Staff could do their daily work in the current system. The problem was getting data out, not putting it in. A platform conversion would have cost more and taken longer than fixing the reporting gap.
Results
- Reports reach executives instantly.
- Staff who had never written SQL use AI agents to build their own reports and schedule them daily, weekly or monthly.
- The Teams assistant answers quick executive questions and sends a CSV in about 45 seconds.
- The company kept its servicing system. There was no platform conversion.
- If it converts later, the field mappings are already documented.
